About the Workshop
Overview:
This workshop introduces participants to leveraging the advanced capabilities of Large Language Models (LLMs), to support and enhance human translation efficiency and quality. The course reframes the translator's role as an AI-enabled language professional, emphasizing how AI generates drafts, suggests terminology, offers stylistic guidance, and supports quality assurance.
Participants will explore the strengths and limitations of AI, integrate AI outputs into their analytical and editorial workflow, and practice hands-on translation exercises that combine critical human insight with powerful AI assistance.

- Introduction to AI in translation: NMT, LLMs and the shift to Post-Editing
- Context Analysis: Using AI to summarize source texts for rapid contextual understanding
- Post-editing as collaboration: Refining AI-generated text for human quality
- Style, tone, and audience adaptation: Tailoring translation for different goals
- Cultural and localization considerations: Avoiding literal errors and ensuring cultural fit
- Automated Quality Assurance (AI QA): Using AI tools to check for consistency, numbers, and technical errors
- Ethics & Data Safety: handling confidential content and responsible AI use

- Working with AI-generated Arabic drafts across various subject areas
- Post-editing exercises: light vs. full refinement
- Applying automated QA checks to numbers, punctuation, and terminology.
- Adjusting tone and style using targeted AI prompts
- Creative Intervention: Practicing human overrides to correct figurative language and cultural blunders
