 What language courses do you offer?

We offer courses in Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Turkish, Russian and Portuguese courses.

How many different language proficiency levels do you offer?

Courses are offered at the beginner (no prior knowledge) to advanced levels. We also have courses on special topics and in a variety of formats.

If I have prior knowledge of the language how can I find the most appropriate course for my level

Students beyond the beginner level are asked to take a placement test to determine their level. To request a placement test you need to contact the respective program coordinators:

What if I am enrolled in the wrong level?

You will be switched to the appropriate language level class.

When do your courses start?

We have three sessions per academic year. Our fall courses start in September and our spring courses start in January. The summer session starts in May.

How often do classes meet?

We offer a variety of course formats. During fall and spring, our regular courses meet twice a week on Sundays and Tuesdays or on Mondays and Wednesdays. Each session is between 1.5 and 2 hours long. Our German intensive courses meet three times a week. Each session is 3 hours. Our Spanish intensive courses meet once a week on Saturday morning. Each session is 3 hours. Our courses on special topics are offered in a variety of formats.

In our summer session we offer intensive courses and courses on special topics. Classes meet two or three times a week. Each session is between 1,5 and 3 hours.

Do you offer morning or evening classes?

Yes, we offer morning and evening classes.

Do you offer online or face-to-face classes?

Yes, we offer both online and face-to-face classes.

What is the platform used for online classes? 

We use WebEx, the HBKU official platform. 

What is the language used for instruction?

We do English-target language instruction.

Do you offer courses in the weekend?

Yes, we offer intensive courses and courses on special topics on Saturday in several language programs.

Will I be able to switch to another class?

You will be able to switch to another class if there are still seats in that class.

Is the book fee included in the course tuition fee? 

No, the books are paid for separately. 

How can I register for a course?

The first step is visit the program you wish to enroll in and click on register/pay here button to complete your registration. 

Can I pay in installments?

No, the tuition fee should be paid in full before the start of the course.

Can I pay online?

Yes, registration and payment is done online. 

Who is eligible for a tuition fee discount? What is your refund & deferral policies?

Does the discount for full-time students apply to high school students?

No, only full-time college students are eligible for a student discount for courses longer than 30 hours.

Where is your location?

We are located in Education City, LAS building near gate 2, First floor. Please, click on the Google map link or use the below map.

Can students abroad enroll individually in LC face-to-face classes?
 
They are required to be physically present in the country as per the entry/residence laws of the State of Qatar. Language Center does not provide support in Visa requests and/or applications for individual students .
 

 

 

How can I secure a gate/student pass?

Security officers require an ID when entering Education City after 6 pm. We are currently working with HBKU to securing ID. We will announce it when it is available. In the meantime, we suggest that students deposit their IDs with the guards at the security gates.

Can I enter LAS building?

Yes, if the declaration form is submitted and accepted by the Language Center.
