Workshops by experienced instructors are open to participants from diverse professional backgrounds

[HBKU’s Translation and Interpreting Institute Announces Professional Development Workshops for 2019-2020]

In line with its mission to provide the local community with a high-quality education in translation, interpretation, and foreign languages, the Translation and Training Center at the Translation and Interpreting Institute (TII), part of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), is offering several workshops for the 2019-2020 academic year. 

The workshops, which are open to the public, will be delivered by qualified and experienced instructors, and are aimed at participants seeking to acquire skills in the field, as well as professional translators and interpreters looking to improve their skills. Participants will receive hands-on training to work in accordance to international standards in various industries such as business and finance, medicine, media and audiovisual translation, interpretation, revision and computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools.

Nada Al-Mahmeed, director of Translation and Training Center at TII, said:  “TII’s Translation and Training Center is pleased to offer a number of training workshops this year, which focus on different areas ranging from theincluding basics of professional translation to the art of dubbing, translating news and specialized medical documents, and more. We have designed our programs to engage enthusiastic our learners and provide advancement training to industry professionals. We welcome interested candidates and encourage them to enroll for the workshops to build their skill sets and gain expertise in the evolving fields of translation and interpreting.”

The workshops by the Translation and Training Center are offered to advance TII’s aim of promoting community development and building capacity in Qatar and the region through continuing education and professional development opportunities in translation and interpreting. Participants will be introduced to theoretical and practical approaches that will focus on building their skills with various practice sessions and exercises.  

Upon completion, participants will be well-versed in the ability to assess and manage the risks and identify the challenges that surface during the translation process; make effective use of technological tools and machine translation platforms as assisting tools; and become more proficient in specific terminology used within different specialized industries. 

With the exception of ‘Business Arabic Writing’ and ‘Accessible Hospitality and Events’, all workshops will be conducted in English and Arabic. Due to limited seats, interested candidates are encouraged to register at the earliest. Details about the registration process, and fees and discount policy can be found on the website.

The workshops will be held at Penrose House (LAS Building), from 4pm – 7pm, Sunday to Wednesday.
