What language courses do you offer?

We offer courses in Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese courses.

How many different language proficiency levels do you offer?

Courses are offered at the beginner (no knowledge) to advanced levels. We also have courses on special topics and in a variety of formats.

If I have prior knowledge of the language how can I find the most appropriate course for my level

Students beyond the beginner level are asked to take a placement test to determine their level. Our placement tests for French (click here) and Spanish (click here) are online. For Arabic and Chinese, you need to contact the respective program coordinators to request a test: Mr. Ashraf Abdelhamid (, Arabic program coordinator, and Dr. Jian Zhao (, Chinese program coordinator. What if I am enrolled in the wrong level?

You will be switched to the appropriate language level class.

When do your courses start?

We have three sessions per academic year. Our fall courses start in September and our spring courses start in January and run for thirteen weeks in each semester. The summer session starts at the end of April and runs for 4-6 weeks.

How often do classes meet?

During fall and spring, classes meet twice a week on Sundays and Tuesdays or on Mondays and Wednesdays. Each session is 1.5 hour long on the following schedule:
Evening classes: from 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm or from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Morning classes: from 9:00 am - 10:30 am or from 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

In our summer session classes meet twice a week on Sundays and Tuesdays or on Mondays and Wednesdays for 2.5 hours (5:30 pm - 8:00 pm.)

Will I be able to switch to another class?

You will be able to switch to another class if there are still seats in that class.

What is the class size?

Minimum 5 students and maximum 15-17 students.

How can I register for a course?

The first step is to pre-register online after which you need confirm your registration by visiting the TII office to pay your tuition fee. Our office is located in LAS building, first floor. Kindly note that your seat is only confirmed after your payment has been received .We only accept payment by debit or credit card. 

Can I pay online?

TII does not have the facilities for online payment. We only accept payments by debit or credit card in our office.

Where is your location?

We are located in Education City, LAS building near gate 2, First floor. Please, click on the Google map link or use the below map.

How can I secure a gate/student pass?

Security officers require an ID when entering Education City after 6 pm. We are currently working with HBKU to securing ID. We will announce it when it is available. In the meantime, we suggest that students deposit their IDs with the guards at the security gates.
