Chinese for Kids Beginner

Course details:
Course duration: 12 January – 23 March 2019 (11 Weeks), 20 hours

Chinese for Kids 1.1

This course is for kids who desire to learn Mandarin Chinese systematically. Through card games, hands-on activities, group projects, coloring, video watching and many more children-centered, age-appropriate activities, kids will learn about 150 most frequently used Chinese characters. They will also learn Pinyin – a phonetic system of Mandarin Chinese, basic character strokes, and stroke orders. The knowledge and skills learned in this course will lay a solid foundation for the kids to continue to a higher level.

By the end of the course, kids will be able to:

  1. Recognize about 100 characters
  2. Master Pinyin – a phonetic system of Mandarin Chinese
  3. Write Chinese characters by following the correct stroke order
  4. Make short sentences using the words they have learned

Pre-requisite: No prior knowledge of Chinese for this course is required

Chinese for Kids 1.2

This course is for kids who have successfully finished the course Chinese for Kids 1.1 or have the equivalent ability. In this course, while kids will continue to build up their vocabulary and characters, they start to learn basic grammar such as the word order and parts of speech. In the process of reviewing what they learned previously and learning new characters and vocabulary, kids will learn more radicals and their example words and phrases. Through storytelling, singing, reciting and many more fun games, kids will practice and consolidate what they learn in all four aspects of the Chinese language: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

By the end of the course, kids will be able to:

  1. Recognize about 100 new characters
  2. Master about 12 new Chinese radicals
  3. Make situational conversations freely
  4. Write simple text such as diary and note

Pre-requisite: Beginner Chinese for Kids 1.1 or equevalent.

Session 1: Mixed Ages

Chinese for Kids 2.1

This course is for kids who have successfully finished the course Chinese for Kids 1.3 or have the equivalent ability. In this course, while kids will continue to build up their vocabulary and characters, they learn more basic grammar such as functional words and sentence structures. In the course of practicing what they learned previously and learning new characters and vocabulary, kids will learn more sophisticated ways of expressing themselves. Through storytelling, singing, reciting and many more fun games, kids will practice and consolidate what they learn in all four aspects of the Chinese language: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

By the end of the course, kids will be able to:

  1. Recognize about 100 new characters
  2. Master about 12 new Chinese radicals
  3. Make situational conversations freely
  4. Write simple text such as diary and note

Pre-requisite: Beginner Chinese for Kids 1.3 or equevalent.

Chinese for Kids 2.2

This course is for kids who have successfully finished the course Chinese for Kids 2.1 or have the equivalent ability. In this course, while kids will continue to build up their vocabulary and characters, they learn more basic radicals of characters, as well as grammatical points such as sentence structures. In the course of practicing what they learned previously and learning new characters and vocabulary, kids will learn more sophisticated ways of talking and understanding. Through storytelling, singing, reciting and many more fun games, kids will practice and consolidate what they learn in all four aspects of the Chinese language: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

By the end of the course, kids will be able to:

  1. Recognize about 120 new characters
  2. Master about 15 new Chinese radicals
  3. Make situational conversations freely
  4. Write simple text such as diary and note

Pre-requisite: Beginner Chinese for Kids 2.1 or equevalent.

Schedule:
Session 1: 5/6 Ages
Session 2: Mixed Ages

 

Chinese for Kids Post-Beginner

This course is for kids who have successfully finished the beginner level course or have the equivalent ability. In this course, kids will continue to learn more characters and vocabulary. In the process of reviewing and learning new characters, kids will learn more sophisticated radicals, in order to gain further knowledge of grammatical structure and polysemantic meaning of Chinese characters. Through comprehensive narrative reading, card game, riddle making, mini speech, and many more fun games, kids will consolidate their skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing Chinese.

By the end of the course, kids will be able to:

  1. Recognize about 300 new characters
  2. Master about 20 Chinese radicals
  3. Begin to write simple composition on various topics
  4. Be able to read children books in Chinese easily

Pre-requisite: Chinese for Kids 2.1 or equevalent.
