Breaking News in Spanish

Do you like staying in touch with the latest news? Would you like to do this through the Spanish language press? What about improving your Spanish while increasing your knowledge of Latin America and Spain? If you think it sounds good, then this course suits you. We will read, discuss and understand news related to international affairs, Spanish and Latin American art and culture or the presence of Qatar and Arab countries in the Spanish-speaking media. Students improve their reading and writing skills working with press articles; they expand their listening skills while working with TV news, radio podcasts or documentaries and they boost their conversational skills by holding debates about the latest news.

Prerequisites: This class is best suited for students who have passed Beginner 2 level or equivalent.

Spanish for Business

Do you want to close a deal with a Spaniard or a Latin American? Do you need to understand better how they approach business? Then join this course to learn how to talk Spanish like a professional. This course gives you the confidence you need when doing business in Spanish. The course covers all four skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing Spanish in business contexts. You expand your vocabulary and practice the language in everyday business situations on the telephone, in meetings, presentations or negotiations. You learn valuable communication skills and gain knowledge to help you succeed in your profession.

Prerequisites: This class is best suited for students who have passed Spanish Pre-intermediate and intermediate levels or equivalent.

Spanish Intermediate Conversation and Culture

Bring your Spanish language skills to a new level. How about discovering the Spanish and Latin American culture in a different way? In this course we use short films, commercials, poems, music and press articles to talk and travel together to Spain, Argentina, Uruguay, Mexico, Paraguay, Cuba, Ecuador and some other fabulous countries to learn more about their people, cities, monuments, traditions and culture. This course builds upon what you already know, using your knowledge as a springboard to fast, effective development of intermediate-level fluency in the language.

Prerequisites: This class is best suited for students who have passed Spanish Beginner 2 or equivalent.

Survival Spanish

Are you planning to spend time in a Spanish-speaking country and you don’t speak a word of Spanish? Do you want to be able to learn enough to be able to travel? Then, this is the right course for you. After taking this course a true beginner will be able to go to tourist information offices, hotels, airports and travel agencies, ask about locations in a new city, make phone bookings, order in restaurants, shop, etc. The class is conducted in a relaxed atmosphere with conversation, role play and authentic materials. The class is conducted primarily in Spanish.

Learning Spanish with Songs

By taking this course you learn various aspects of Spanish and Latin American cultures through their music. Have you ever wanted to sing and understand the lyrics of Enrique Iglesias’, Jennifer López’s, Ricky Martin’s or Shakira’s songs? Do you want to know more about salsa, tango and rumba Latino music styles? How about learning Spanish in a relaxed and music-infused atmosphere? Spanish Beginner 1

In this course you acquire basic communication skills and common everyday expressions along with simple sentences aimed at meeting immediate needs in any part of the Spanish-speaking world. The focus is on greetings and farewells, asking about and giving basic personal and family information, talking about likes and dislikes, shopping and describing people. You also acquire basic grammatical structures and tenses. The course is conducted in Spanish as much as possible.

Spanish Intensive Beginner 1

Do you find it hard to come and study Spanish on weekdays? Then grab a cup of coffee and join our intensive Saturday mornings. Classes meet for 3 hours only once a week from 10:00 am till 1:00 pm. Spanish Beginner 2

This course is designed to provide you with the linguistic competence to understand and use common daily expressions used in any part of the Spanish-speaking world, concerning immediate needs. You and your classmates talk about your daily routine, leisure activities and ordering in a restaurant, among others. You also learn how to talk in past tense about places you have visited and learn how to give directions. The course is conducted in Spanish as much as possible.

Prerequisites: This class is best suited for students who have passed Beginner 1 at this program or who have basic Spanish language skills and have tested at the appropriate level.

Spanish Pre-intermediate 1

You have completed the beginner level and now what? You are ready to go a step further. In this course, you continue to expand your vocabulary, your repertoire of grammatical expressions and you build your fluency. You continue to learn about discussing your immediate needs with a wider vocabulary and greater precision. The content of this course focuses on discussing past events, discussing the skills and qualities of people, talking about habits, making recommendations, descriptions and comparisons, identifying and describing the physical appearance of a person, as well as discussing relationships. The course is conducted in Spanish.

Spanish Pre-intermediate 2

In this course you continue to expand your vocabulary and grammatical means of expression. You learn more idiomatic expressions related to daily life and areas of experience that are of particular interest to you (family, interests, occupations, etc.) Discussions focus on tastes and eating habits, descriptions of habits and circumstances of the past, intentions and projects, the value of experiences and the desire to produce something. You also learn to write postcards, simple letters and short stories. You engage in short debates. The course is conducted in Spanish.

Spanish Intermediate 1

In this course you acquire sufficient linguistic competence to understand and appropriately respond to some common situations of everyday life. You read general texts and simple literary texts and you learn how to conduct a telephone conversation. You also learn how write short biographies, summarize the plot of a movie, relate past experiences, as well as express prohibitions and commands. You expand your means of expression by learning how to express impersonality. You can tell jokes and anecdotes and gain a better understanding of Spanish and Latin-American cultures. The course is conducted in Spanish.

Spanish Upper Intermediate 2

In this course you become a fluent speaker of Spanish. You communicate with precision using the correct register and level of formality to express points or nuances appropriate to the situation. At this level you can discuss actions, movements and the situations people are in and you can describe moods, beliefs and prior information. You can also discuss larger issues such as travels, advertising campaigns and environmental problems. The course is conducted in Spanish.
