Arabic Beginner 1

You live in Doha, you are in the Middle East and you want to learn the language! This is the course you start out with! It is a course for true beginners. In it you start developing basic speaking, listening, reading and writing skills, as well as basic cultural awareness. In this level you not only learn the Arabic letters, sounds, and symbols but you also start learning the sentence structure, introductory conversational patterns, and basic grammar so that you can begin to create with the language and engage in practical everyday situations. Topics include but are not limited to greetings, polite expressions, asking and answering questions, and exchanging personal information. The present tense is practiced as well as the basic sentence structure. Supplementary speaking, listening, reading, and writing materials will be used. You will also discuss topics of Arabic culture.

Arabic Beginner 2

Now that you have completed Arabic Beginner 1 you are curious to explore further.  And it gets easier. In this course you gain more practical experience, learn more sophisticated grammatical concepts and how to implement them in your speech and expand your vocabulary for a greater variety of situations. The present, past, future tenses are extensively practiced in conversation. Supplementary speaking, listening, reading, and writing materials are used. Language instruction takes place in the context of learning about Arabic culture.

Arabic Beginner 3

You are getting there! You are almost at the end of the beginner stage. This course helps you move to the intermediate level of proficiency as defined by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages Proficiency Guidelines (ACTFL). In order for you to expand your vocabulary you work with a variety of authentic spoken and written texts.  Speaking, listening, reading and writing all play an integral part in this course. This course has a strong cultural component which helps in the learning of the language.

Arabic intermediate 1

You have completed the beginner series! Now what? It’s time to get ready to build on the skills you have already acquired. As you now have a strong knowledge of the basic structures and a good reserve of vocabulary, you are ready to proceed on exploring the Arabic language and culture in greater depth!
​This course will expand your range of vocabulary and grammar knowledge. As a result, your communicative skills will develop and you will be able to successfully engage in conversations with native speakers.

You perform more complex communication tasks and more self-confidence. You also learn to take linguistic risks in daily communicative situations.

Basic Arabic Conversation (NEW!)

Since you now are living in Qatar, you must be curious about developing your basic Arabic speaking skills over a short period of time before learning the alphabet! If this sounds like you, you should consider taking this course.
​In this course, you learn through speaking and listening in a variety of everyday situations. You learn how to greet and address people properly, introduce yourself, how to socialize, how to tell the time and date, etc. Language instruction is taught in the context of Qatari and Middle Eastern culture. The class material is written in the Roman script.

Arabic Conversation 1

If you have completed the beginner series at this program or elsewhere and wish to focus on your communication skills away from a textbook this is the right course for you. You use the basic grammatical structures and vocabulary that you have learned and build upon them. Learning takes place through conversation and communication. The course is taught using only authentic and customized communicative materials watching Arabic movies, listening to Arabic music, songs, and viewing cartoons. You also read materials from the Internet and print media about current events and discuss them in class. You expand your vocabulary and grammatical means of expression and improve your fluency. The class is conducted in Arabic.

Prerequisites: At least Beginner 3 at this program or equivalent.

Arabic Conversation 2 (NEW!)

In this course you continue to develop your communication skills. If you have completed Intermediate 1 or 2 levels or equivalent this is the right course for you. The course is taught using only authentic and customized communicative materials watching Arabic movies, listening to Arabic music, songs, and viewing cartoons. A typical class includes intensive practice in conversation with emphasis on vocabulary building and improving fluency in speaking, reading, and listening. Classes are conducted exclusively in Arabic.  You read an article, write a summary, make a presentation to the class, answer questions from other students, and engage in conversation.

Prerequisites: Conversation 1, Intermediate 1 or 2, or equivalent.

Arabic for Medical Professionals

You are a doctor, a nurse or another healthcare professional in Qatar and you find out that English is not enough. Sometimes you wish you could understand your Arabic-speaking patients better and to show to them that you care. This is the course that can help you do that.
​This course is very practical. It is designed around basic clinical situations that healthcare professionals face and the interactions they engage in. It will help you explain a prescription, report lab results, communicate with a patient who comes in with a fever or with a concerned family member.

Media Arabic 1 NEW!

You have taken Arabic courses but you wish to go off  “the beaten path” of instruction. Then you may want to consider this course. The goal of the Media Arabic 1 course is to introduce you to the Arabic used in the media. The course is designed to develop your ability to read simple news items in different newspapers published in the Arab world and to listen to and understand broadcast news. You achieve two goals: you have a focus on the media and you also expand you vocabulary and grammatical resources by engaging with the language in a natural way. This utilizes authentic materials with an emphasis on the local media in Qatar.

Qatari (Khaleeji) Dialect

Here you are, knowing some Arabic and yet unable to talk with your Qatari colleagues, neighbors and friends. What’s wrong? You need the Qatari dialect! This is the course that will help you fix the problem.
​While most Arabic language classes focus on Modern Standard Arabic, this course provides the perfect opportunity to learn the variety of Arabic spoken by Qataris. Typically, students in this course have successfully completed three or four semesters of Modern Standard Arabic. You learn through authentic materials and emphasis is placed on communicative tasks. Role play is part of instruction. In the process you learn specific aspects of the Qatari dialect such as grammatical structures, vocabulary and pronunciation.

Prerequisites: Intermediate level of Modern Standard Arabic.
